We recently installed our FMF PowerCore4 Performance Exhaust Package on one of our DRZ project bikes. The package consists of an FMF PowerCore4 Muffler, FMF PowerBomb Header pipe, and we added on the optional JD Jetting Jet Kit, and K&N Hi Flow Air Filter. We've also done the 3x3 airbox mod commonly seen on these bikes. Last but not least, we bolted up a Z Carbon Universal Pipe Guard to the header pipe for some extra protection.
Review:
The FMF PowerCore4 Performance Exhaust package makes a huge difference in the DRZ's overall performance. Our DR-Z400SM Project Bike is now way more fun to ride.... it pulls much harder than it did with the stock exhaust, and the powerband feels more linear. From a sound standpoint, the PowerCore4 muffler is slightly louder than the FMF Q4 muffler we have on our other DRZ, but it sounds great and has a nice deep tone to it. IMHO it's just the right noise level if you have a DRZ400SM supermoto that you ride mostly on the street or at the track. If you have a DRZ400S and do more off-road riding, I'd lean towards the FMF Q4 package since the Q4 muffler is a little quieter.

We are now a dealer for MRD exhaust systems and recently installed one of their Z-Pro full exhausts on our DRZ400SM Project Bike. This is the best exhaust on the market if you're looking to maximize the performance of your DRZ. They also happen to look great on the bike thanks to their hand-made attention to detail.
MRD Z-Pro pipes (formerly known as the SSW-MRD) are hand built from 18 gauge 304 stainless steel and 6061 aluminum, and tig welded by hand by owner Dave Harryman. These are not over priced, stamped out, mass produced pipes, they have a high quality hand fabricated look. MRD builds their pipes from stainless steel because it is the best material for exhaust systems, SS holds more heat in for better exhaust velocity, SS does not dent as easily as TI and does not require loose spring mounting to keep it from breaking. Their pipes have superior dimensions and flow better than stock - resulting in noticeable power gains. Endcaps are bolted for easy removal when changing inserts or repacking.
To simplify ordering, we've put together an MRD Z-Pro performance exhaust package where you can customize the system to fit your needs. On our project bike, we're running the MRD full exhaust with quiet insert and heat shield clamps. We've also done the JD Jetting Jet Kit as part of the package, and a K&N Air Filter with the 3x3 airbox mod. Finally we finished off the system with a Z-Carbon Header Heat Shield.

We bought our 2008 Suzuki DRZ400SM project bike used, with a pretty ratty Supertrapp exhaust installed on it, so the bike was in dire need of a new exhaust system. We recently installed our Yoshimura RS-2 Performance Package, which consists of the full Yoshimura RS-2 exhaust system, a Dynojet Jet Kit, and No Toil Air Filter. We also did the 3x3 airbox mod commonly done on these bikes. After installation, we had the carburetor jetted at a local race shop (MPH Ohio) using the Dynojet Jet Kit. They did dyno runs before they installed the jet kit, and then again afterwards (see dyno chart below).
Review:
These simple mods made a huge difference in the bikes overall performance. The Yoshi exhaust system sounds and looks much better than the stock exhaust system, and the entire Yoshi Performance package has made the bike way more fun to ride. The bike pulls much harder than it did before, and the powerband feels more linear. The sound of the RS-2 exhaust is excellent... it's just the right noise level in my opinion and not too loud like some exhaust systems can be.
Dyno Results:
We didn't have a stock exhaust system to do base runs with, so I pulled some info published by Motorcyclist Magazine for a stock DRZ400SM. Here are some actual numbers comparing a stock DRZ400SM to our DRZ400SM Project Bike after it was dyno tuned...

The results above show the importance of properly jetting the carburetor with the Dynojet Jet Kit. Without it, the bike ran poorly, and as you can see from the results (and the dyno chart above), we weren't maximizing performance gains from the Yoshi exhaust, No Toil air filter, and 3x3 airbox mod.
Overall We are very pleased with these results considering how simple these modifications were to do to the bike. An increase of about 4 hp and 4.5 lb-ft of torque is pretty impressive and can definitely be felt. Our DRZ400SM is now much more fun to ride, and it finally sounds like a REAL motorcycle. We couldn't be happier!
