Over the years, we've tried all the various exhaust systems for the Suzuki DR-Z400S / DR-Z400SM, from the MRD full exhaust, to the FMF Q4 and PowerCore4, and even the Two Brothers slip on. Our favorite though, is the Yoshimura RS-2, and that's the system we currently have installed on both of our DRZ400SM Project Bikes. We think it's the best combination of looks, performance and sound. It's not the cheapest exhaust available, but the quality, fit and finish, and all around looks and sound of it make it well worth the price.
When installed along with our JD Jetting Jet Kit, an air filter, and the 3x3 airbox mod, it really wakes the bike up and makes it much more fun to ride, improves power/torque substantially, and obviously makes it sound much much better.
