The stock CRF450RL (and CRF450L) come with a tiny skid plate from the factory that only provides a minimum amount of frame and engine protection. If you plan to do any serious off-road riding, we definitely recommend upgrading to a skid plate that provides a little better protection. We like plastic skid plates, like the Moose Racing PRO LG shown above, whenever one is available, because they are generally lighter weight, and they seem to vibrate less and are a little quieter than the aluminum skid plates
One option is the Moose Racing PRO LG Plastic skid plate (shown above). This skid plate, manufactured by AXP Racing in Europe, is made from flexible high-density Polyethylene plastic that is 8mm thick for maximum protection of your bikes engine and frame. It also includes an integrated shock lower linkage guard. Unlike aluminum, the plastic construction absorbs impacts, does not undergo deformations, does not generate vibrations, and is 40% lighter than aluminum.

Another option is the TM Designworks Full Coverage skid plate (shown above). These skid plates are made with composite impact absorbing plastic, with a silicone additive to reduce friction. The plastic construction allows maximum frame flex, is lighter than aluminum, and less noisy.
