We recently installed the AltRider High Fender Kit on our Tenere 700 project bike. I've had a chance to get a few rides in with it, and so far really pleased with it. Here are some details...
Why do you need one? Well, the stock Tenere 700 front fender, to me, is more of a street bike front fender, with how close it's mounted to the front tire. For street riding, it's fine, but for off-road riding, it's going to potentially pack up with dirt, mud, rocks, and so on. Not only is this a headache to keep clean, but it could also cause some damage if enough debris gets packed up around that stock fender. Since we want to ride our Tenere 700 off-road every now and then, we wanted more of a dirt bike style front fender, with plenty of front tire clearance, and we decided to give this high fender kit from Alt Rider a try.
What do you get with the kit? The AltRider kit includes a new plastic front fender, mounting kit with all hardware necessary to mount the fender, plus you get a new DOT approved braided stainless steel front brake line set, and block off plates to cover the holes left by the stock front fender mount.
What are our thoughts? Overall, really pleased with how everything fits up to the bike, and it definitely looks the part with more of that traditional off-road dirt bike look. With this new setup, I'm much more confident of taking the bike off-road now that we have plenty of clearance between tire and fender. The new braided stainless steel front brake lines are a nice feature as well, and a side benefit of this is that we now have better feel at the front brake lever compared to the stock rubber lines, and since we also installed Galfer brake pads, we have better overall braking than with the stock brakes.
We definitely recommend the AltRider High Mount front fender kit if you plan on taking your Tenere 700 off-road. Two thumbs up on this one!
