KTM 690 Stock Seat vs. Seat Concepts Comfort Seat

I’ve been using Seat Concepts seats on various dual sport and supermoto bikes for years now, and they are a must-have upgrade if you’re like me and can’t sit on the typical stock seat for more than about 50-75 miles. The stock seat on our KTM 690 SMC R project bike is actually not too bad from a comfort standpoint, but I did a few long rides on the bike and knew that one of the Seat Concepts “Comfort” seats would be better suited for those long rides. For our project bike, we went with the Seat Concepts standard Comfort Seat, as opposed to the Comfort XL that Seat Concepts also offers for the bike.

The Seat Concepts Comfort seat for the 2019+ KTM 690 Enduro R or SMC R is slightly over 10″ at its widest point, compared to about 7″ for the stock seat (see photo). The Comfort XL version of the seat is substantially wider, at about 12.5″. The SC seats taper and get narrower as they get closer to tank, so you can still easily move around on the bike. The combination of a wider seating surface, and Seat Concepts proprietary foam material, make it much more comfortable than the stock seat, especially on longer rides. I’ve done several 250+ mile days on Seat Concepts seats and they are a HUGE improvement over pretty much any stock seat.

Cover Material Options: The Seat Concepts seats are available in several combinations of materials/colors. The covers with the Gripper Top are best for aggressive riding if you really want to be held in place. The covers with the Semi-Grip (also called Low-Slip) top are slightly less grippy than the Gripper top, but still will hold you in place. The covers with the Diamante top have a suede-like look, and are slightly less grippy than the Semi-Grip top. For the average dual sport or supermoto rider, the Semi-Grip Top material seem to be the most popular choice.

Installation: This is a complete and ready to install seat. You simply take your stock seat off, and put the SC seat in its place… It’s literally a 30 second install.

Final Verdict: Overall I think this is a great upgrade to the bike. The wider seating surface makes it much more comfortable than the OEM seat, and the Semi-Grip top version I’m using offers just the right amount of grip with my riding pants. I think the Semi-Grip Top is probably the best choice for most dual sport/supermoto riders, and it seems to be the most popular with our customers. These seats also look great with the orange stitching and carbon-weave side panels, giving them a very trick and custom look.
